The Ladies of Oak Lane represents the 12 Panhellenic chapters at Virginia Tech and their philanthropic efforts on and off campus. Whether it be through their own national philanthropy, a local cause, university event or other chapter's philanthropy, these women spend countless hours working to better the community. The Ladies of Oak Lane highlights some of the wonderful things the Panhellenic community does both individually and collectively.

Our Mission: To enhance the perception of the Panhellenic community by showcasing chapters' philanthropic efforts.

Pi Phi Loves Lilly and Literacy!

Just a few weeks ago, the sisters of Pi Beta Phi brought Lilly Pulitzer to the Pi Phi house, and to Oak Lane. This year was the third annual Lilly Pulitzer sale hosted by Pi Beta Phi!

The purpose of having the sale (aside from helping the Greek community find new formal dresses and date function attire, of course) is to raise money for our philanthropy, which is literacy! We are able to get 15% of the money from sold merchandise to give to our philanthropy, so it's like percentage nights at restaurants, which a lot of organizations do to raise money.

We absolutely love our philanthropy and love that we are able to have our big philanthropy in the fall, and have the Lilly sale in the spring to raise even more money for literacy, and our national partner, First Book.

First Book is an organization that puts a first book in the hands of children in need. We are proud to announce that we raised $1,800 for First Book this year!

Thank you to everyone in the Greek community who came out to the Pi Phi house for the Third Annual Lilly Pulitzer sale!

Sisterhood Spotlight on Emma Stafford

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." - Eleanor Roosevelt

Many graduating seniors are getting ready to head out into the real world in just a few short weeks.  Graduation in creeping up from right around the corner, and the stress of finding the next plan may be weighing on more than a few shoulders.

Kappa Delta sister Emma Stafford knows where she's going, and she's pursued her plan with fervor.  An entire year early, Emma is about to finish her final year at Virginia Tech and is ready for what's next.  So what is next for the young, ambitious Biology major?  Pharmacy.

Not only is she graduating a year ahead of schedule, but she was accepted a few months ago into the Virginia Commonwealth University Pharmacy School.  With a bright future in pharmaceuticals she has moved into her new home in Richmond, Va and is excited to begin her next journey.

Emma believed in her dreams of becoming a pharmacist and is well on her way to that PharmD.

Emma, proud Hokie and soon to be Ram.

Chi Omega Celebrates Their Bigs!

A Little’s relationship with her Big is one of the most important relations in Greek Life. She’s her confidant, her shoulder to cry on, and her best friend. In order to show our love and appreciation for our Bigs the Sisters of Chi Omega celebrated Big Appreciation Week. Throughout the week we showered our Bigs with letters, pictures, baskets and love to show how much we appreciate everything they do for us.
One of the festivities was a spaghetti dinner where everyone all got together with the sisters of the whole chapter to celebrate. We also spent time on making them gifts, such as baskets, to show our love. Remember to appreciate your Big, she’s only around in undergrad for so long. Always remember, sisterhood is more than going out together and having a good time, it’s building relationships that we will forever cherish.

Alpha Phi's Cardiac Arrest

Two weeks ago, Alpha Phi hosted its annual Spring philanthropy, Keep The Beat Week. To spice things up, we added a new event this year called “Cardiac Arrest”. On Tuesday, the sisters of Alpha Phi set up a jail cell on campus. Each organization participating in our philanthropy was instructed to send one member to be the “cell-mate” and collect bail for their organization.

Just about every organization participating collected well over their allotted bail, so it was a huge success for Alpha Phi! It was also so fun to see students that were walking on campus stop by our jail cell to donate money to their favorite organization.

By the end of the week, Alpha Phi raised over $6,500 for the Alpha Phi Foundation, and we look forward to our Fall philanthropy, Red Dress Gala, in September.

Tri Deltas NOAH way to rock Sigma Chi's boat!

Meet the animals!
The highlight of this week was Sigma Chi's philanthropy: the 41st annual Derby Days.  Sigma Chi partnered up with Children's Miracle Network in order to aid local children with an ailment or defect and raise funds for their treatment.  The series of events consisted of the Derby chase, field games, roller derby, brother auction, and Airbands.

Inarguably, my favorite part of Derby Days was the night of Field games.  Our theme was Noah's Ark, and included Deltas in pairs dressed up as animals and coaches dressed in appropriate biblical-times clothing, down to a walking stick and long cloak.  Each organization paraded down the grassy hill, showing off costumes and holding their sign.  Given our theme, we thought it would be fitting to walk in twos, behind an Ark cutout and our coaches flailing their sticks in the air.  A finishing touch was two sisters dressed as turtles, crawling slowly behind the line!  However, amongst all of this excitement and chaos, it was important to reflect on and support the cause behind each event.

Zeta Day

Every year, the sisters of ZTA attend Zeta Day.  This year, Zeta Day was in Norfolk, VA.  A total of 8 Virginia chapters were there along with numerous advisors and alumni.  Most girls from the chapter left on Friday and enjoyed time on the beach, shopping, and just relaxing with their sisters! On Friday night, everyone headed to a sister, Lindsay Velline's beach house for a cookout.

Zeta Day was on Saturday and the Eta Xi chapter of Virginia Tech accepted one award after another.  We received Most Improved GPA, Outstanding Recruitment, Outstanding Service, and Best Website.

Everyone broke out into discussion groups to get to know one another and more about the various campus chapters.  This was a great opportunity to share ideas with one another.

A very special sister shout out to Emily Smalling, our nomination for being best all-around Zeta for her involvement with the chapter and campus.

Zeta Day every year is a great experience and opportunity.  We feel so proud to not only represent our accomplishments but to be able to  show just how wonderful the Virginia Tech Panhellenic community is.

We are so proud of our chapter and for each and every member who has made the past year so successful! Already looking forward to what next year's Zeta Day will bring.

Delta Gamma Celebrates our Founders

On March 25th Delta Gamma took part in an extremely successful Founders Day celebration along with a neighboring Delta Gamma chapter, Gamma Pi of Roanoke College. Delta Rho, Delta Gamma invited multiple alumnae from around the Roanoke area to celebrate this year’s Founders Day held at The Inn at Virginia Tech.

Beyond a delicious brunch, the women of Delta Rho were able to meet and speak with the women from Gamma Pi and get to know fellow sisters from a separate university. This opportunity helped the women of Delta Gamma understand that their sorority is much larger than just what is at their respective universities.

The women enjoyed a morning filled with stories from Delta Rho alumnae ranging from their competitive spirit when it came to philanthropies, or how their friendships from college and within the sorority stuck through years after. Also, both chapters took some time out from the day to recognize each chapter’s scholastic achievements including recognizing women who earned a 4.0 or a GPA anywhere between a 3.5 through a 3.9. This recognition encouraged chapter women to maintain their academic success through this semester.

The ceremony ended in an exchange between Delta Rho and Gamma Pi of song and smiles. Each chapter’s chapter management team was recognized and the chapter women of both chapters could agree on the event being a large success. Delta Rho, Delta Gamma looks forward to next year’s founders day and are extremely grateful for their relationship with Gamma Pi!
