The Ladies of Oak Lane represents the 12 Panhellenic chapters at Virginia Tech and their philanthropic efforts on and off campus. Whether it be through their own national philanthropy, a local cause, university event or other chapter's philanthropy, these women spend countless hours working to better the community. The Ladies of Oak Lane highlights some of the wonderful things the Panhellenic community does both individually and collectively.

Our Mission: To enhance the perception of the Panhellenic community by showcasing chapters' philanthropic efforts.

Happy Holidays and Farewell to Football Season from ADPi!

This past month, Alpha Delta Pi sisters have been hard a work to finish out the semester strong academically and philanthropically.

To get sisters from all sororities in the true holiday spirit of giving, the Virginia Tech Panhellenic Counsel has worked with Toys for Tots in the Blacksburg community to put donation boxes in each sorority house in Oak Lane. Sisters of ADPi have been excited to donate to the campaign in hopes of bringing the children of Montgomery county a happy holiday season.

ADPi would also like to wish the Ronald McDonald House in Roanoke a wonderful holiday!

In celebration of the end of another wonderful, albeit challenging semester at Virginia Tech, sisters of ADPi will be having a sisterhood event this upcoming Friday. The event will be a tacky sweater party complete with snacks, holiday movies and holiday songs. Sister’s can’t wait to (hopefully) relax after the first week of finals and enjoy time together as we say farewell and good luck to our fall 2011 graduates.

ADPi is also planning having a packed study hours this week as sisters prepare for final projects and exams. Our scholarship chair, Emma Schmitt has worked hard this year to have study hours be a fun, weekly event in which sisters get together to do homework in each other’s company.

Alpha Delta Pi would like to wish everyone in both the Greek community and the Virginia Tech community a wonderful, happy and safe new year and holiday season! GOOD LUCK ON EXAMS and see you in 2012!

ADPi's before a VT Football game!
You can expect a lot of sisters will be going to the Sugar Bowl!!

Sister Spotlight: Anna Tobia

This week Alpha Phi would like to recognize our amazing and beautiful sister, Anna Tobia. Not only has she dedicated so much of her time and service to our chapter through her position of Director of Community Service in the past, but this year she has taken on the huge role of Director of Relay For Life at Virginia Tech. Anna inspires each and every sister, as well as everyone she meets, with her passion and determination to fight back. She always has a smile on her face and a positive attitude that is simply contagious.

The amount of work Anna spends on VTRelay each day certainly does not go unnoticed! As her sisters, we are continually trying our best to support her by serving on Relay For Life Exec or Committees, being Team Captains, and raising money for Relay For Life. Alpha Phi is currently the top sorority on VTRelay’s Greek For Life, and we plan to keep it that way!

With the positive energy and encouragement that Anna displays every day, Alpha Phi is confident that this year’s Relay For Life is going to be record-breaking once again! We are so proud of you, Anna.

Newly initiated Alpha Chi sisters!

This past week, the sisters of Alpha Chi Omega had the honor of initiating 8 new sisters into the Fall 2011 pledge class of the Epsilon Tau chapter here at Virginia Tech! We have all had such a great time getting to know them and we absolutely adore each one! We are so proud to be able to finally call them our sisters! Each one of them has already given so much back to our chapter and we could not be more proud.  Our newly initated sisters are Taylor McBryde, Taylor Riley, McKenna Creasey, Parrish Willis, Mandy Cassells, Adrienne Sanchez, Jenn Bates, and Myra Kornides. The sisters of Alpha Chi love bonding and had such a great time this semester getting closer than ever.

(Some members of our fall pledge class posing with our new letters!)

Not only did we initiate our new fall pledge class, but we had the excitement of installing our newly elected Executive Board members right before Thanksgiving Break. We are so excited and believe that they are going to accomplish amazing things. Right before installation, we had a chapter Thanksgiving potluck that was a huge success. Each sister brought an item and we all got to enjoy lots of food, and each other's company, which is always a great time!

As the semester is drawing to a close, sisters of Alpha Chi are diligently preparing for exams, while the newly installed officers are finishing up their transitions with last years Executive members. We are all sad to leave each other for winter break, but are anxiously awaiting January because you that means, Formal Recruitment!

The sisters of Alpha Chi wish you all good luck with finals and a Happy Holiday!

'Tis the Season

As the semester comes to an end, everybody knows that the Holiday season is quickly approaching which means that the much anticipated winter break is just around the corner.  But with break approaching, that also means that final exams are here too.  In order to take a break from the stresses that exams and the end of the semester bring and to get into the Holiday spirit, the sisters of ZTA came together to celebrate. This was a busy weekend for the sisters of ZTA as many took off to Charlotte to cheer on the Hokies and our newest Executive Council had officer training in Northern Virginia. So last night, everybody came together for holiday cookie decorating, a movie night, and some sisterly fun before final exams and girls start to head home for the Holidays!

As one last surprise before the semester comes to an end, the sisters of ZTA will have a "Grab-a-date".  Executive council surprised the sisters with one last date function in which the sisters only had one week to "grab their dates"! The date party will be Holiday themed on Tuesday, December 6th in order to get into the spirit and enjoy one last time together before departing for Winter Break.

From the sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha, we wish everyone great luck with the end of the semester and a wonderful and safe winter break.

Delta Gamma to partner up with Tom's Eyewear

As the semester quickly comes to a close, Delta Gamma continues to work hard to ensure a successful end to a successful semester. In the past couple weeks, Delta Gamma has been working hard to install their new executive office, begin planning for their annual philanthropy – Delta Gamma and expanding their philanthropy, Service for Sight.

As the new executive office was named about a month ago, outgoing officers have been working hard to make sure that the transition goes smoothly. Between meetings over lunch and in Christiansburg at advisor’s homes, the chapter women have successfully transitioned over the executive panel for the 2012-year. The new executive office will begin to take over just as spring semester commences and the chapter could not be more excited for the great ideas and plans that these chapter women bring to the table.

As well as installing new officers, the chapter has been rather busy planning Anchorsplash, the chapter’s annual philanthropy that takes place in the beginning of the spring semester. The chapter women have not only designed t-shirts for the event but they have also been assigned as team leaders for fraternities and sororities around campus that are interested in being part of the philanthropy and are currently working with them during their weekly chapter meetings.

Lastly, the chapter is thrilled to be partnering up with Tom’s eyewear “one-for-one” campaign that donates money to offer help to those with sight-based disabilities. As this directly correlates with Delta Gamma’s philanthropic cause Delta Rho chapter at Virginia Tech is anxiously awaiting becoming a part of this movement.

Pleased with the fall semester, Delta Gamma looks forward to an equally successful spring semester and wishes all of the Greek community the best of luck on finals, and furthermore, hope that all have a happy holiday and a well deserved break!

Sigma Kappa's Week of Giving

Last week Sigma Kappa held their annual week of giving! Throughout the week sisters collected over 300 food items to help support the Montgomery County Food Pantry.  There are many families in need throughout the new river valley and we are so happy that we could help make their Holiday Season a little brighter.

Also included in Week of Giving is our annual Toys for Tots campaign.  Toys for Tots is a program sponsored by the Marine Corp that donates toys to local children during the Holiday Season.  Sigma Kappa held a trunk show at our chapter house last Wednesday to raise money to buy toys for this cause.  The vendors at the show included 310 Rosemont, Punch Boutique, and Vault Denim.  Attendees of the trunk show enjoyed seasonal treats like gingerbread and cider. The show was a great success and everyone found perfect gifts for their mom, sisters and friends! Sigma Kappa also placed boxes around campus and in every Greek organization’s house in Oak Lane.  These boxes will be available until the end of the day this Wednesday, the 7th, so if you would like to donate there is still plenty of time!

As our last post of the semester, Sigma Kappa would like to wish everyone a happy and restful Winter Break.  And for those of you going to the Sugar Bowl, we can’t wait to cheer on the Hokies with you!

There is still time to donate a toy for our Toys for Tots campaign.  Check for a donation box in your chapter house or contact a Sigma Kappa sister!

Sisterhood Spotlight: Megan Weber

“When your letters are in front of you, your sisters are behind you.” When it comes to support and understanding, you won’t get any better than Megan Weber. Megan Weber was last years Administrative Vice President and is the newly elected 2012 President of Gamma Phi Beta. As our newly elected executive council takes on their newfound roles, Megan’s title may have changed but her heart has not. She is the perfect example of what a sister should be. She puts the needs of the sorority and all of it’s members before herself, takes up the slack whenever it is deemed necessary and devotes her heart and soul into our chapter. She spends endless nights helping sisters out with whatever necessary and is always there for anyone in need. She does a lot of the behind the scenes work for our sorority and doesn't get half of the recognition she deserves sometimes. Her titles are not what make Megan an outstanding sister though, it’s the devotion and loyalty she gives to each of the 150 women she can call her sisters. There is not a doubt in any of our minds that she will do fantastic in her new position. We love you very much Megan! From the late night McDonald’s runs to the sisterhood we’ve shared, we as chapter cannot thank you enough for all of your hardwork, and that is why you are more than deserving of this Sisterhood Spotlight!

Megan Weber, 2012 President of Gamma Phi Beta
