The Ladies of Oak Lane represents the 12 Panhellenic chapters at Virginia Tech and their philanthropic efforts on and off campus. Whether it be through their own national philanthropy, a local cause, university event or other chapter's philanthropy, these women spend countless hours working to better the community. The Ladies of Oak Lane highlights some of the wonderful things the Panhellenic community does both individually and collectively.

Our Mission: To enhance the perception of the Panhellenic community by showcasing chapters' philanthropic efforts.

Excitement for Eta Pi

The women of the Eta Pi chapter are wrapping up an exciting month filled with philanthropy planning, participation in other Greek philanthropies, volunteer work, and visiting the newest Alpha Delta Pi chapter at James Madison University.

On Saturday the 23, a few chapter women traveled to Roanoke to volunteer at the Walk for Leukemia. Sisters were in charge of a table and a "Wishing Tree" before the event began. Walk participants had the ability to hang up their own wish on the tree.

During the past week, chapter women participated in Delta Delta Delta's fall philanthropy, "Fitness, Flapjacks, and Football".  Participants had a blast eating pancakes, working out at McComas Hall, and playing football in support of St. Jude's Children's Hospital. In the same week, Eta Pi also participated in FarmHouse's philanthropy. Chapter women loved participating in FarmHouse's "PDA" aspect of their philanthropy. Women tweeted, Facebooked, and showed the FarmHouse men their love all week. Girls also went to Moe's for percentage night, and participated in FarmHouse's first Mud Run on Saturday the 29.

On Friday the 28, chapter women headed two hours north to James Madison University to participate in installation ceremonies for Alpha Delta Pi's newest colony. James Madison University welcomed 201 new Alphas to their newest colony. Eta Pi couldn't be happier to have so many new sisters close to Blacksburg, and can't wait to be more involved with the new colony.

Chapter women have been working hard and looking forward to the upcoming week as their fall philanthropy, Safari Hunt, takes place October 2, 3, and 4.

Gamma Phi Beta is Wild for Fall Semster

On Saturday, September 15th, the sisters of Gamma Phi Beta, Eta Epsilon chapter went on their annual fall retreat to Mill Mountain Zoo in Roanoke. While on the retreat, sisters were able to see over 175 animals, including 7 endangered species (the adorable sea otters were a big hit!).  They were able to go into a small reptile house, and come within feet of some exotic birds. After eating lunch at the pavilion, they participated in a few fun team-bonding activities and created some new goals for the fall semester!

The chapter is hard at work to prepare for their philanthropy this month. This upcoming week the sisters of Eta Epsilon are looking forward to the start of their 2nd Annual Crescent Classic to help support their international philanthropy, Campfire USA.  The aim for this program is to build resiliency in young girls to help shape them to be strong, confident leaders in the future.  Before school resumed last month, Gamma Phi Beta sisters from 5 chapters travelled to visit Campfire Patuxent in Maryland to work and play games with the campers.  The sisters loved being able to spend the day with the kids that their philanthropy goes towards.  Memories were made that will last a life time with the campers, and they are looking forward to and will hopefully be returning to the camp.

The sisters have a busy fall semester filled with football games, their philanthropy Crescent Classic, recruitment workshops, and sisterhood dinners, but they're starting off strong and excited for the start of a new school year!

Zeta Tau Alpha Prepares for a Busy Semester

With an exciting summer of studying abroad, summer jobs and internships, and relaxing vacations, the sisters of the Eta Xi chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha are ready to get back to work! As the fall semester has finally started, the sisters prepare for their new philanthropy, cheer on the Hokies in Lane Stadium and at away games, and search for their missing T.

Sisters Traveled to Pittsburg for the game.

At the end of the year the Zeta Tau Alpha sisters decided it made sense to switch our philanthropy to the month of October, the national month for Breast Cancer Awareness. The sisters traditionally pass out ribbons on campus however the chapter is stepping up their game with a 3-day philanthropy event called Grand Zlam. The sisters will be collecting Yoplait lids, have booths around campus to collect donations, have a DP Dough fundraiser, and a kickball tournament!

It’s everyone’s favorite time of year: football season! The Zeta sisters have enjoyed getting together and tailgating with friends and family. Recently a large group of sisters traveled up to Pittsburg to support our Hokies. Although the team did not come home with a win, the girls came home with a lot of fun stories and great memories.

On the early morning of September 3, the Zeta sisters who live in the house woke up to find something array. The T on the front of the house was missing, leaving the house with only a Z and an A. After a few other T’s went missing on campus, the campus police have concluded it may have been Georgia Tech fans, who had been in town for the game that night. The sisters were not upset for too long; they are already planning on creating a new set of letters to fit our chapter’s personality better!

Sigma Kappa Celebrates a New Semester

-->
The sisters of Epsilon Chi enjoyed a summer full of fun vacations and then started out the Fall semester strong.  At the Sigma Kappa National Convention, the chapter received the Platinum Giving Circle Award, as well as the Academic Achievement Award.  Several members held internships over the summer at various places including IMG Academy, Nike, the Nationals baseball team, and the Department of Defense.  Members who lived in the Washington, D.C. area attended a professional baseball game together in August.

During the first weekend back at school, a sisterhood event was held in which sisters went tubing down the New River and then held a cookout afterwards.  Sisters set up “Just aSK” booths at busy locations around campus in order to help freshmen find their new classes and answer questions about Greek life.  Sisters also enjoyed their time at Gobblerfest, where a table was set up to encourage students to “Go Greek!”

This past weekend, the chapter participated in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, also known as Memory Walk, where sisters and Blacksburg residents walked three and a half miles through downtown Blacksburg to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s Disease.  Sisters were able to raise almost $5,000 to go towards Alzheimer’s Disease Research, which is one of Sigma Kappa’s largest philanthropies.  The sisters greatly enjoyed spending a day contributing to the effort!

Sigma Kappa is excited to see what the rest of this semester holds.  From beautiful Fall weather, pumpkin spice lattes, and lots of football, these next few months are sure to be wonderful!

Pi Beta Phi Hits Home Runs for Literacy

Pi Beta Phi's fall philanthropy "Angels In The Outfield" took place this past week with immense support from 13 organizations at Virginia Tech for events, including the first ever wiffle ball tournament!

All benefits from Angels In The Outfield go towards raising literacy awareness in the New River Valley. Angels In The Outfield participants were encouraged to check in and take money by the donation booth in Squires and high five Pi Phi sisters on campus for points throughout the week!

The philanthropy week also included special events including a food night downtown at Moe's Southwest Grill, and everyone's favorite "Pie A Pi Phi" outside of TOTs, where anyone could pay $1 to pie a Pi Phi sister in the face with a plate of whipped cream.

On Saturday for the White Out game, the sisters of Pi Beta Phi hosted a tailgate for literacy, where they partnered with Frank Beamer to collect children's books for First Book and Hermas Readers. Angels In The Outfield came to a close on Sunday with a double-elimination wiffle ball tournament between all the participating organizations, and a Pi Phi favorite, speed read!

Angels In The Outfield was a great success; Pi Beta Phi was able to raise $2000 for literacy! Thank you to all those who participated in Angels In The Outfield, and to those who just pied us in the face to support literacy!

Alpha Delta Pi welcomes a new semester

It’s a new semester, and the sisters of Alpha Delta Pi have jam-packed as they prepare for their three-day fall philanthropy event, Safari Hunt, prepare for Recruitment 2012, and participate in the colonization of two newest chapters of Alpha Delta Pi at Christopher Newport University and James Madison University.

Eta Pi unveiled new recruitment photos at the beginning of the semester.

Unfortunately, sisters were unable to visit Christopher Newport University to welcome new members due to time constraints. However, Eta Pi chapter is excited to visit James Madison University later in September to assist their newest sisters.

Most recently, sisters are celebrating a strong turnout and success at Gobblerfest. Alpha Delta Pi sisters created a beautiful informational board and decorated their booth with signature can tabs for Ronald McDonald House, hand painted Greek letters, a wooden A-frame from Safari Hunt, and numerous photos. Gobblerfest was a great way for the entire Greek community to spread the word to the Tech community about going Greek.

Sisters are also well under way in planning and preparing both their newly initiated and older members for the next round of recruitment. Eta Pi welcomed four new sisters through informal recruitment last semester, and cannot wait to welcome more sisters in the upcoming semester.

Planning chairs are also keeping themselves busy as Safari Hunt nears. The event is set to take place October 2, 3, and 4, and will consist of various events each day. Some events include a “Run for Ronald,” Substation percentage night, and Field Day. As usual, participants can earn points by “roaring” whenever they see an Alpha Delta Pi on campus. Alpha Delta Pi is proud to support Ronald McDonald House as its philanthropy, and Eta Pi hopes for strong participation to support their organization throughout the Greek community at Tech.

As far as activities for the rest of the semester, sisters look forward to participating in events with other sororities, fraternities, and other organizations on campus.

For now, sisters are enjoying spending time with each other at Sweet Frog sisterhood meet-ups, and cheering on their Hokies at football games!
