The Ladies of Oak Lane represents the 12 Panhellenic chapters at Virginia Tech and their philanthropic efforts on and off campus. Whether it be through their own national philanthropy, a local cause, university event or other chapter's philanthropy, these women spend countless hours working to better the community. The Ladies of Oak Lane highlights some of the wonderful things the Panhellenic community does both individually and collectively.

Our Mission: To enhance the perception of the Panhellenic community by showcasing chapters' philanthropic efforts.

Delta Gamma is presented "Citizens of the Year" award by Blacksburg Lions Club

Delta Gamma has been up to a handful of exciting and rewarding philanthropic and social events since the beginning of Fall Semester 2011. The first event of the semester for Delta Gamma was the annual Lion’s Club Dog Walk on Saturday, September 10th from 9 AM – 12 PM. Delta Gamma participates in this walk every year as a part of our philanthropy – Service for Sight. The Lions Club puts on a Dog Walk for Delta Gamma, where sisters come together in a 3 mile walk accompanied by the men of the Lions Club, as well as their four-legged friends to show support for Service for Sight and are able to give donations for the cause. The Lions Club participates in many sight based philanthropy projects and Delta Gamma is honored to have the opportunity to work with them on an annual basis. The chapter received the 2011 Citizens of the Year award from the Lions Club Organization later in the month because of this participation.

A week later, on September 17th, Delta Gamma participated in the one of the first Greek communities’ chapter outreach projects. Hosted at Custom Catering, DG and multiple other fraternities and sororities along were invited to mix and mingle to get to know one another better. The night was a success, as all 4 chapters had high turnouts and used the opportunity to make new friends out of their own chapters. This was one of the first of hopefully many Greek outreach programs that Delta Gamma plans to participate in, in an effort to reach a even higher level of cohesiveness within Greek life here at Virginia Tech.

This month, Gamma Phi Beta held their first ever Crescent Classic at Virginia Tech. Delta Gamma was more than excited to support this new chapter with participation in their philanthropy. The chapter came out strong in all three events of the philanthropy, including Camp Gamma Phi, Sub Station and the last event – Moonball. The chapter looks forward to participating in Gamma Phi Beta’s philanthropy in years to come, and was proud to be a part of the campus-wide support this new chapter has received.

As far as sisterhood activities, the pledge class of Spring 2011, led by Megan Evans, made a trip to the river to go tubing, enjoy each other’s company and the warm weather in early September. This trip, among other sisterhood events such as movie nights in the Delta Gamma house, are a chapter wide effort to promote even further bonding between one another by offering options to spend time together outside of chapter and other mandatory events.
