The Ladies of Oak Lane represents the 12 Panhellenic chapters at Virginia Tech and their philanthropic efforts on and off campus. Whether it be through their own national philanthropy, a local cause, university event or other chapter's philanthropy, these women spend countless hours working to better the community. The Ladies of Oak Lane highlights some of the wonderful things the Panhellenic community does both individually and collectively.

Our Mission: To enhance the perception of the Panhellenic community by showcasing chapters' philanthropic efforts.

Kappa "Kaddyshack" 2011

Kappa Kappa Gamma’s annual Fall philanthropy “Kaddyshack” will take place this week from October 4 – 7! Kappa sisters will hold events throughout the week such as a pasta dinner at our house on Tuesday, check in booths in Squires on Wednesday and Thursday, and the sisters will coach sororities and fraternities in events on Thursday and Friday.

Everyone always has a great time at Kaddyshack because the events are enjoyable and laid back all at the same time while raising money for a great cause, our philanthropy, Reading is Fundamental. All of the money that Kappa raises from the events throughout the week will go towards R.I.F., which is the largest children’s literacy nonprofit program in the United States. It helps to prepare and motivate children to ready by delivering free books and literacy resources to those children and families who need them most. Kappa also asked every organization participating to donate new or gently used children’s books when they come for events so we can send them to R.I.F. to even further help the cause.

This year our internal philanthropy chair decided to change things up a bit and make the putt-putt tournament a little more challenging by turning it into an event called Oak Lane “Kampus” Golf, where participants will play nine holes of “golf” through Oak Lane. Now, this is not the kind of golf that you have seen before. The tournament will use golf clubs, tennis balls and different targets around Oak Lane to successfully complete all nine holes. From the looks of the event, it is going to be something that will be challenging and hilarious all at the same time.

Another aspect of Kaddyshack is an event called Kappa Kappa Gobble, a “golf ball” eating challenge where we will see who can gobble up the most powdered doughnut holes in a certain amount of time to win the event! Eating competitions are always a blast, because someone is always the messiest, or the fastest eater, and the overall winner is usually determined at the last second by one bite!

Us Greeks love a good philanthropy, and I cannot wait for everyone to come out next week and participate to raise money for Reading is Fundamental!
